Alchemy & Breakthrough Creativity

By Dr. Theresa Bullard

In alchemy there is a saying that when it comes to creating or transforming things, it must “ascend from earth to heaven and again descend to earth.” In so doing, we “revive the strength of both the superior and inferior realms.”

The Thinker

This means that we have to first lift our consciousness up to higher planes, up to a higher way of perceiving, in order to truly access new ideas, insights, and breakthrough creativity.

Then we must bring it back down into the very practical world to manifest it, and bring it into tangible form. Then we repeat this process.  We raise up to a higher plane again and we bring it back down again.

bigstock-Diversity-Of-The-Mind-57374144

The more we can continue this cycle of raising up to higher planes of consciousness and then bring the new ideas back down to the tangible, material realm, that is when we can successfully combine the strength of both consciousness as well as material, physical form.

Essentially, we are combining these powers of our inner and our outer, of above and below.  This is the fundamental approach we train people in for accessing breakthrough creativity and quantum consciousness.

Brain Waves

This is very different from how most traditional approaches to problem solving operate today.  Most people have been conditioned to approach problem solving from the Industrial mindset of: what is practical, what is logical, and what makes physical sense? This pattern of thinking stems from the old paradigm of Newtonian Mechanics.

While it is practical and certainly has its place in the flow of making things happen, when it comes to accessing breakthrough creativity, this approach is too limited and linear.  It assumes that the only realm to operate in is the physical, material, practical world. You may enjoy reading more about this Old Paradigm approach in my blog Let Your Brain Out of the Box.

The problem we have now is that our way of thinking has been conditioned by these old assumptions.  Quantum Physics today shows us a different approach, one that engages our participation and where consciousness plays a key role.

We live in a participatory universe.  What we experience and create is really based on what and how we are choosing to perceive.

World Vision

In other words, what we focus on and how we set up our patterns of behavior largely influence our experience of the world.

So how does this work?

Last week, we explored alchemy and the four elements of Earth, Water, Air and Fire which are used as symbols to represent aspects of ourselves, as well as stages of transformation.

These 4 elements can be used to help us to not only access different states of our consciousness but also to drive the transformational process.

Control Emotions.

Lets say for example, you are stuck in an old pattern, behavior, or way of thinking, and you want to make a breakthrough.  The first step is to break down the old pattern in order to catalyze the breakthrough.  When we are stuck, in alchemy we would call this a fixed position and we want to make it volatile.

We want to start breaking that up and changing it.  So the element that we would work with is Fire.  Remember, Fire is the most active part of our imagination and consciousness, so we use Fire to make the breakthrough.

Flame Background

On the other hand, lets say that things are getting a little too erratic, chaotic, and unformed.  You want to contain all of this into some form so that things can settle down and crystallize into something you can really work with at a practical level.

In this case, we want to use the element of Earth. Remember Earth is all about grounding into the physical form and putting it into action.

In alchemy, we work between Fire, Water, Air and Earth, in that sequence, to keep shifting the energy dynamic and to help harness it according to what our purpose is. Alchemy gives us a 7-step formula for applying these elements in sequence to drive the transformational process all the way through from starting point to final result. This is why alchemy is so essential to mastering the creative breakthrough process.

The more you can learn to work with these tools and access higher states of consciousness, the faster and easier it will become to make these creative breakthroughs.

Stay tuned for our next blogs in this series, where we will start to explore the 7-steps of the Alchemical Formula for Transformation.

How many of us suffer because we are not able to access our full potential? How many struggle at work to create or to complete projects?  How may of us feel this tension in our lives?

Alchemy reveals to us a different way.  It shows us how to harness this tension and use it towards our advantage.

Healer's Sparkling Energy Website Banner

In last week’s blog, we looked at alchemy and polarity. For the next two weeks,  we will explore alchemy and the 4 elements and how they can be used to harness transformation and access breakthrough creativity.

Control Emotions.

In alchemy, the 4 elements of Earth, Water, Air and Fire are used as symbols to represent aspects of ourselves, as well as stages of transformation.

These 4 elements can be used to help us to access different states of our consciousness and also to drive the transformational process.

Fire:

Flame Background

Fire represents the creative spark.  It is our passion and desire.  Fire stimulates original ideas and breakthroughs. The element of Fire is the most active part of our imagination and consciousness.

We can use the symbol of fire anytime we want to access creativity, originality, and excitement. We can also use it to break through an old form that has become too rigid or is blocking us from progression, because fire is the most dynamic element that can burn away the densest forms. Fire usually is invoked to initiate or catalyze a new transformational cycle in Alchemy.

Air:

Blue sky background with a tiny clouds

Air symbolizes and gives access to thought patterns of the mind.  Like the thoughts in our mind, air is constantly moving, expanding, and reaching out.  The symbol of air thus invokes reason and logic, yet in an expansive way rather than a limiting way.

Since air is constantly moving it symbolizes allowing our thoughts to flow more freely, like a jet-stream of thought that is moving in the directions we send it in. When we can really harness the element of Air, we can clear away the clouds so to speak and bring more clarity to the mind.

In Alchemy, air is used to help us use discernment and get clear about what is what – what to separate out or discard, and what to keep. It is also used to help us raise our awareness to higher levels of consciousness and subtlety.

Water:

bigstock-Underwater-48730175

Water symbolizes our emotional energy and our creative intuition.  Water is about our ability to flow and be flexible and keep the stream of creativity flowing all the way through to its destination.  Water will also take on the shape of whatever container you put it in, so it is malleable and encourages us to be adaptable.

In Alchemy, water is used for purification and cleansing or dissolving away any impurities or imbalances in a system. Water also has a great capacity for memory, something that has been scientifically verified, thus it serves as a great medium for storing or containing information and energy, in order to help it integrate into a more tangible and physical level.

Earth:

Grass. Fresh green grass with dew drops closeup. Sun. Soft Focus

Earth symbolizes solidity and is therefore about grounding higher energies and ideas into physical form. Earth brings things into the tangible, practical world where we can put them into application and action.

Taking action is ultimately what produces results. We can think and be creative all day long, but without action, nothing happens. These steps of getting grounded and practical are what the element of Earth helps us to access. When it comes to earth and bringing things to a physical level, we must also engage the body and its system of feelings through the five senses in order to make it more real and tangible, so that we will have a sense of what it will feel like once the transformation is complete. Earth is therefore where we get more measurable, tangible, and specific in our creative process.

So now that we understand the symbology of each element,  how can we then use the 4 elements  to harness transformation and access breakthrough creativity. Stay tuned next week for part two of our blog.

From Tension to Transformation: The Alchemy of Harnessing Differences

Posted on by
facebooktwittermailfacebooktwittermail

facebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutubefacebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutube

By Dr. Theresa Bullard

The process of alchemy reveals to us how transformation unfolds.  How it works, at its core, is through harnessing differences.

the butterfly

In Alchemy these differences are often represented as “polarities”.

Many of us are already familiar with the concept of polarity in the body.  For example, left and right sides of the body, which are governed by the right and left hemispheres of the brain, respectively.

Left And Right Brain Concept Top

The left hemisphere is generally more logical, detail-oriented, language-based, numbers, rules, and abstract thinking such as is required for doing math.  The right hemisphere is more creative, gestault, non-linear, intuitive, social, relationship-oriented, and artistic.

So we have polarity at work within ourselves all the time, in addition to it showing up in our relationships and interactions with others.

bigstock-Futuristic-background-31881773

We can also talk about this inner polarity in terms of conscious mind and sub-conscious mind.

The sub-conscious is the part of us that operates beneath the surface of our awareness. About 90% of our brain capacity is being used for sub-conscious activity.  This sub-conscious part of us largely dictates what we accomplish, what we perceive, how we behave, our habits, and how we respond or react to things.

The Thinker

Then there is the other 10% of our brain capacity that we are consciously aware of. This is that part of us that is activity choosing what to do and how to approach certain situations.

When applying alchemy to our conscious and sub-conscious sides, we learn to harness more of our brain capacity for conscious awareness, balancing and harmonizing these two aspects of our selves, and therefore becoming more self-aware and in control of our decisions and actions, rather than sub-consciously controlled.

bigstock-people-communication-two-pers-31751297

When talking about polarity, the discussion would not be complete without addressing one of the biggest polarities in our world, that of masculine and feminine.

In ancient traditions these have been represented as the sun and the moon, with the moon being feminine and the sun being masculine.  In Eastern traditions, this polarity is also referred to as the yin and the yang, with the yin being feminine and the yang being masculine.

Yin Yang on water

The masculine is about active, dynamic, expansive energy. It is that driven nature that wants to reach out and accomplish something in the world.  The feminine, on the other hand, is the part of us that is more inwardly directed, introspective, reflective, and nurturing.  The feminine is about taking time to be quiet and still, and to rest.

Essentially we want to learn how to balance and create an active, dynamic yet harmonious flow between both these sides of ourselves, as well as in our relationships between men and women. This too is what alchemy is all about.

Wave Particle

The ultimate goal of alchemy is to harness, balance, and unite the power and qualities inherent within these two natures of feminine and masculine, sub-conscious and conscious, right hemisphere and left hemisphere. In so doing, we can operate at a much more masterful level and become self-realized.

So how do we do this process of harnessing differences? Alchemy says the way to balance the two sides is by mediating with 4 elements. These 4 elements are symbolically represented as Earth, Water, Air and Fire.

Control Emotions.

Alchemy heavily uses metaphorical language and symbols to convey its universal principles and methods. In our Free Webinar on Accessing Creativity, I discussed the importance of symbols, especially for helping us harness our faculty of creative imagination. These 4 elements of Alchemy are symbols that help us access different states of consciousness and different stages in the creative and transformative process.

Stay tuned next week as we go deeper into the 4 elements and their role in transformation and accessing breakthrough creativity.

By Dr. Theresa Bullard

At a time of increasing complexity and rapid change, leaders around the world and across industries are recognizing that the role of a leader is shifting.

10687140_326518617527344_4916768413855666990_n

The 20th century “command-and-control” approach, which spawned from the 18th and 19th century Industrial Age based on the bottom line motives of driving results and delivering numbers, no longer works sustainably.

Now more than ever, there is a growing imperative for leaders and organizations to keep pace and maintain creative advantage.  To effect change, today’s leaders must become Transformational Leaders who can effectively engage those they lead and guide them all the way through the change process.

bigstock-Diverse-business-people-human--16774562

This includes being able to communicate and articulate clear purpose and organizational values, create a shared vision, build collaboration and teamwork, make effective decisions, and creatively solve problems.

Quantum Creative Leaders not only recognize that they create their world, they also have the tools and understanding to know how to do this more consciously.

So now the question is what are the steps to becoming a Quantum Creative Leader?

Creative Business

We’ve identified 3 Essential Steps that allow you to access this transformative way of operating and ultimately elevate your creativity capacity to become a Quantum Creative Leader:  Cultivate – Quantum – Expansion

Step #1 Cultivate

bigstock-Diversity-Of-The-Mind-57374144

This first step means to actively cultivate Creativity. There are 7 key areas for elevating your creative capacity and raising the bar to gain an advantage as a leader.

These include first and foremost developing your imagination.  Innovation happens through “leaps of imagination.” and so learning to develop your imaginative capacity is critical to cultivating creativity.

Creative Business Idea

Next, creativity requires multiple brain regions, including both hemispheres of the cortex as well as deeper brain structures, to function at its optimal potential. Learning to rewire your brain is an essential task.  You may enjoy our blog 3 Steps to Rewire Your Brain for Creativity.

This is followed by the process of allowing. Rather than stressing to pull out an idea from your head, you can simply choose to loosen up and allow it to come through you.

Interaction is another key central to cultivating creativity.  A creative leader is open to the ideas of others and encourages interaction amongst those they lead.  The fifth key to cultivating creativity is all about Space.  This relates to both physical environment, as well as time and mental space to get into a creative flow.

Businessman Holds Earth In A Hand

Cultivating creativity also requires you are operating at the edge.  This refers to being outside the comfort zone of routine, outside the box of patterned ways of thinking and doing. The final key is uncertainty.   This key shows us how to adapt an attitude of accepting, even enjoying, and allowing it to be ok for there to be unknowns.

Step #2 Quantum

Molecular Thoughts

This second step is about embracing a Quantum Mindset & New Paradigm Approach. When you do, you can transform your approach from one of limitation to boundless possibility.

Human creativity works very similar to the creativity of quantum processes. Quantum thinking takes creative thinking several steps further into really being able to Consciously tap in to the source where all creativity originates from.  When you are coming from quantum thinking then you are in a space of awareness that transcends and precedes labels, structures, and familiar patterns of thought.

Mind Stream

By first accessing a state of Higher Consciousness, we can then tap into the Quantum View of reality and become aware of the many possibilities available for making a breakthrough or a “Quantum Leap” in our creative thinking.

This Quantum mindset gives you access to a thought process that is creative, insightful, intuitive, and able to make breakthroughs or leaps.  With quantum thinking you can more easily challenge assumptions, create new categories, change structures, transform thought patterns, leap out of old habits.

Brain Waves

Quantum thinking coincides with using our whole brain in a synchronous way. In such a state we are able to radically rewire our brains. Potentially in an instant. Sometimes a 6-second window of truly getting into the Quantum Zone is all you need to carry you for an entire week.

Brillant Idea

Getting into that space is where the art comes in. It does take some repetition to train ourselves to access it, but when you do and you really get the feeling of it, then it can gets easier and easier to recreate that experience.

Step #3 Expansion

Thought Cloud

The final step of Expansion refers to one who purposefully expands consciousness outside the box of limited perception in order to make breakthroughs in creative innovation and problem solving tasks.

In Quantum Consciousness, we actually go into a space of awareness where the box doesn’t even exist.

But then once we tap into the new idea or inspiration that we want to bring into tangible reality, we bring it into the framework of the mind so that we can work with it in a practical way. In so doing, it transforms our mind, while our mind simultaneously works to harness it and bring it into form.

So Cultivate – Quantum – Expansion will take you on your way to becoming a Quantum Creative Leader.

By Dr. Theresa Bullard

What comes to mind when you think of creativity? A painting? A song? Perhaps a new invention or way of thinking?  Did you know that creativity is at the foundation of innovation and problem solving? In fact, it is now recognized as a key factor to success.

This is why now more than ever it is critical that leaders possess the ability to access creativity and utilize it to drive their team and projects to success.

Understanding the power of creativity is essential for maintaining high performance, sustained advantage, and for identifying new solutions to the problems of today’s ever changing economy.

What is Creativity?

Creative Business Idea

Creativity is the part of us that envisions beyond our immediate physical experience of the world around us.  Creativity is the ability to use imagination to develop new and original ideas or things.  Using this key faculty of Imagination, it guides our creations, our dreams, and even our fears.

What is a Creative Advantage?

Businessman painting abstract colorful design on gray background concept for business creativity, ibigstock-Vector-illustration-rocket-wit-68303701

The Creative Advantage, is the ability to continually tap into new ideas, solutions, and innovations.  This rests upon first being able to harness imagination.  A leader must not only learn to tap in to new ideas but also be able to break past the barriers to creativity when they “hit a wall” or have “creative block.”  When we are talking innovation, we are also talking about making Breakthroughs.

What is a Breakthrough?

Arrow with word Creativity breaking brick wall. Concept 3D illus

A breakthrough is an event that causes or marks the breaking down of a barrier to progress.  A breakthrough can also be an important new discovery.  As Albert Einstein said best, “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.

Enter the Era of Creative Leader

bigstock-Business-team-with-gear-bubble-65253595bigstock-Diverse-business-people-human--16774562

Creativity is one of fundamental qualities we must cultivate as leaders.  Whatever your area of leadership may be, if your work touches society or the lives of people, it is time to develop new strategies for enhancing your creativity.

The Creative Leader is a new term that has emerged to coin the next generation leader who drives innovation through fostering an environment of Inspiration, Imagination, and Breakthrough Creativity.

Another blog you may find interesting is one where we identified some of the key Qualities of a Modern Day Creative Leader.  As leaders, we must learn practical techniques for continually tapping in to new ideas, solutions, and innovations that will keep us flourishing and evolving.

A key solution, we at Quantum Leap Alchemy see, is to move leaders out of the box of old ways of thinking, and to train you to master the arts and sciences of transformation and of accessing breakthrough creativity.

In fact, we believe another type of leader, one who recognizes that both Creativity and Transformation emerge from a Higher Plane of Consciousness, or from the Quantum Realm will become the next generation Transformational Leader.

Introducing the Quantum Creative Leader

Creative Business

There is much discussion these days about Transformational Leadership, a style of leadership in which one uses authentic presence, vision and inspiration to motivate others.  These are leaders who have the ability to skillfully embrace change, empower others and ultimately transform us.

The Quantum Creative Leader recognizes this ability to create and transform arise from higher consciousness and are able to access this realm to drive creative breakthroughs and change.

As author Danah Zohar states, “Quantum thinking is vital to creative thinking and leadership in organizations. It is the key to any genuine organizational transformation. It is the key to shifting our paradigm.”

We’ve identified 3 essential steps that allow you to access this higher plane of consciousness known as the Quantum Domain and ultimately elevate your creativity capacity to become a next generation Transformational Leader, a Quantum Creative Leader.  Stay tuned next week as we look closely at these 3 steps.

Is Stress Impacting Your Creativity?

Posted on by
facebooktwittermailfacebooktwittermail

facebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutubefacebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutube

Here are the essential keys to stress reduction and opening creative flow:

Being overly stressed is a major drawback faced by the majority of people in our modern way of life.  Much research has therefore been invested into understanding how stress affects the brain and body. In and of itself, stress is not actually a bad thing, so long as it is experienced only in short doses.

bigstock-businessman-running-with-some--51470968

Temporary stress or application of pressure can actually aid you in enhancing performance, improving memory, and accessing abilities you may not even realize you have.

However, extensive stress is very detrimental to your wellbeing, both physical and mental. Chronic stress has been linked to causing various illnesses, including stomach ulcers, digestive issues, heart problems, high blood pressure, decreased libido, weakened immune system, inhibited growth processes, and more. It essentially stops the normal functioning of the body in order to channel all resources into handling whatever perceived threat is causing the stress.

So how do you access creativity without adding additional stress to your life?

First it is important to realize that you don’t have to strain or wrack your brain for that next creative idea or innovation. Stressing yourself out is quite counter-productive to the whole process. Rather than stressing to pull out an idea from your head, you can simply choose to loosen up and allow it to come through you.

Beautiful Woman Doing Breath Exercises With An Autumn Background

By training yourself to relax the body and brain at will, you can drastically reduce the effects of stress and open up the circuits within you again to allow for greater access to creativity and wellbeing.

Research has shown that brain activity begins to change within just a few days of learning to meditate, decreasing stress, improving your mood, and supporting your health in many ways.

Brain

Upon relaxing and closing the eyes, yet still remaining awake, we quiet down the cortex, and the brain begins to be flooded by what are known as Alpha brainwaves (neural oscillations rhythmically varying between 7-13 Hz, beats per second). This carries our awareness deeper into the sub-cortical regions of the brain.

Such shifting from the outer to the inner, by closing the eyes and tuning in to more subtle awareness, bridges us to the deeper limbic regions of the brain, where the reward centers lie. It is in this state that you are best able to hear the quiet thoughts in the back of your mind revealing an insight.

Meditating

In addition to meditation, other useful approaches that can open us up to being more receptive and allowing of creative flow include: spending time in nature, listening to inspiring music, dancing, singing, drawing or painting feelings (with no particular object in mind), stimulating the five senses, or in other words, living a romantic life.  Check out our Creative Alchemy CD, a guided meditation that helps you to access higher states of consciousness and reach your goals.

Other essential keys for allowing creativity to flow include:

-Fluency

Magic Of Wave Particle

By learning to allow, creative people become fluent at generating new ideas. Fluency connotes fluidity and flow. Training ourselves to traverse through the multiple dimensions of mind with ease and fluency comes from learning to access higher states of consciousness regularly. In addition, it is about building the bridges that connect different levels of the brain in order to bring greater ability to traverse its vast terrain.

-Capturing the moment

Journal

It is a very worthwhile practice to keep a notepad or recorder with you at all times, especially in the car, the shower, by your bedside, in your gym pack, in your purse or wallet, and be sure to record the little insights that surface when they arise.

If you wait until later when it is more “convenient” to write it down, chances are you will have forgotten part of the brilliance of that creative idea or insight that came up. Whenever and wherever an insight surfaces, be sure to capture the moment.

-Optimism and Trust

people-jumping-sunset

Having a positive attitude of optimism and trust is essential to allowing the flow to continue unimpeded. Negativity such as pessimism, worry, judgment, criticism, and control will very quickly stifle creativity and put a damper on any motivation that was there (whether in yourself or those you lead).

Re-patterning your habitual thoughts from negative thinking to positive thinking is just as important as rewiring your physical behaviors. Such positive reinforcement will also help you keep yourself and those you lead motivated.

Allowing creativity to flow is just one aspect of developing yourself as a creative leader. To learn more check out our FREE Webinar on the 7 keys to cultivating the creative advantage.

3 Quantum Principles Every Creative Leader Should Know

Posted on by
facebooktwittermailfacebooktwittermail

facebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutubefacebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutube

As the iconic genius, Albert Einstein, once said, “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” This means that in order to solve the problems and challenges of today, we must come from a “new type of thinking.”

The Creative Leader is one who embraces change and is able to develop practical techniques for continually tapping in to new ideas, solutions, and innovations.  3 Quantum Principles Every Creative Leader Should Know.

1.  Allowing Creativity to Flow:

Creative Leaders realize that you don’t have to strain or wrack your brain for that next creative idea or innovation. In fact, stressing yourself out is quite counter- productive to the whole process.   bigstock-Lines-Of-The-Soul-56342126

Rather than stressing to pull out an idea from your head, you can simply choose to loosen up and allow it to come through you.

Allowing creativity to flow involves putting oneself in a position of being quietly receptive – not forcing anything, but rather allowing it to happen; it is more a process of surrendering. A relaxed mind is critical to being creative.   By training yourself to relax the body and brain at will, you can drastically reduce the effects of stress and open up the circuits within you again to allow for greater access to creativity and wellbeing.   bigstock-Hand-Of-Woman-Meditating-In-A-57918866

Research has shown that brain activity begins to change within just a few days of learning to meditate, decreasing stress, improving your mood, and supporting your health in many ways.

Known benefits of meditation also include: increased focused attention, improved memory, reduction of anxiety and stress, enhanced creativity and problem solving abilities, greater connectivity and whole-brain wiring, improvement of relationships by connecting to greater empathy and compassion, greater sense of optimism and trust, and anti-aging benefits for greater health, well-being, and cognitive functioning.

2.  Creating Space:

Creative Leaders understand the concept of space and how you can tap into and manage energy. This key relates to both physical environment, as well as time and mental space to get into a creative flow. Recognizing the importance of Space is a concept that is fundamental to the Quantum Paradigm.   bigstock-Diversity-Of-The-Mind-57374144

The key is to focus on the SPACE between events or thoughts or expressions, rather than the expressions themselves.

Similarly, we could look to the Space between the particles as more fundamental than the particles themselves. The more you tap in to empty Space, the more potential energy becomes available to you to use for your creative work. This key of Space is about how well you can tap into and manage energy.   bigstock-Colorful-Synapse-System-58099229   Creating Space starts with “focused time” or eliminating distractions in order to harness time most efficiently. Science has shown that our brains actually perform worse, and we make more mistakes, when we try to multi-task.

So the key is to focus on one thing at a time for a period of time (20 min blocks is optimal), before you switch to another task.

The second piece of creating Space is Physical Order. The general rule of thumb here is: “As the outer, so the inner. As the inner so the outer.”  Your personal physical environment is a good reflection of your inner mental environment.   bigstock-Spa-still-life-with-bamboo-fou-46702012-2

If you want to clean up all the distraction and disorganization that interfere with bringing your ideas all the way through to completion, then put some effort into organizing your physical space and bringing greater order to your life. Try Feng-sui, it works!

3.  Embracing Uncertainty:

Creative Leaders understand that uncertainties are unavoidable and it is futile to try and control all variables.  Outside the comfort zone of control is where all the magic happens, and when you step outside that comfort zone, you are stepping into the unknown, where uncertainties abound.   Outside the Box.001

The reason this is “where the magic happens” is that Uncertainty opens us up to the sea of possibility, multiple options, giving greater opportunity for choice and exercising free will.

This principle requires we adapt an attitude of accepting, even enjoying, and allowing it to be ok for there to be unknowns. Rather than stressing over things that are beyond our control, it is in the Uncertainties of life that provide room for us to deepen our trust in the universal order and to allow the journey to unfold. This step is essential for our shift in consciousness.   Want to learn more on how to develop yourself as a Quantum Creative Leader?   Check out our FREE Webinar on the 7 Keys to Cultivating Quantum Creativity here.

3 Steps to Rewire Your Brain for Creativity

Posted on by
facebooktwittermailfacebooktwittermail

facebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutubefacebooktwitterlinkedinrssyoutube

By Dr. Theresa Bullard

Ever heard that right-brains are more creative? FALSE.  The truth is that creativity requires multiple brain regions, including both hemispheres of the cortex as well as deeper brain structures, to function at its optimal potential.

The ideal is not to be right-brained or left-brained dominant, but to be whole-brained and to have healthy interconnectivity and communication happening between the various brain regions.

alchemy2

Fortunately, neuroscientists have also discovered that the brain is subject to remolding throughout life due to something they call neuroplasticity. This opportunity to remold the brain is an important aspect of our ability to further develop our creative capacity and become more whole-brained. Training the mind and rewiring the brain to be able to access more creativity is an essential step we must take to amp up our performance and innovative abilities.

Here are 3 simple steps to rewire your brain for more creativity:

1.  Stimulate: In order to rewire, we must stimulate the brain with novel patterns, experiences, and concepts. When you commit to seeing things with fresh eyes or engaging in new activities each day, even when they are small things, this supports healthy neural activity and new connections.

2.  Repeat. Neurons wire more strongly according to repeated patterns. When it gets to the point where you no longer have to think about each step, or apply much will power to undertake a task, and instead things just flow, that is when you know you have successfully wired in the new pattern.

3.  Rest.  Finally, it is important to balance out activity and novelty with sufficient rest and downtime. Most creative breakthroughs happen not while in intense concentration, but rather during downtimes, when we allow the mind to wander or rest.

By cultivating a lifestyle that balances activity with rest time, you will be well on your way to thriving in life and feeling like you have plenty of energy and creative juice for the tasks at hand, rather than feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

This step is where the practice of meditation or even some simple controlled breathing and closing your eyes, can really pay off to accelerate your rewiring process. Not only does it reduce stress, it helps put your brain into a deeper brain wave state that then gives it a chance to re-wire.

Just 20 min a day can do wonders for you. Even if you were to just take 5 minute breathers a couple times through your workday, this too would lead to greater reduction of stress and enhanced creative flow.

You might wonder how long it takes to successfully re-wire and anchor in a new, supportive behavior or skill? This depends on two key factors:
1. Motivation.
2. The level of complexity or simplicity of the new behavior

Anytime you identify some habit you have in life that gets in your way or has sabotaged your success, or anytime you run into a block or obstacle you can use this strategy to support you in rewiring the old pattern and breaking through the resistance.

-Write down the pattern or obstacle on a piece of paper, then draw an upright triangle around it.

-Now use your imagination to visualize fire inside the triangle, consuming and breaking down the obstacle or old pattern, and continue seeing it burn until the energy shifts.

-As the thoughts, words, and feelings associated with the old pattern burn away, this creates a disconnect in your neural associations with that old pattern, giving you opportunity to now rewire. The sooner you do this, upon recognizing a block or old pattern coming up, the more effective you will be at stopping the old neural pattern from being reinforced, and will instead bring in new energy for a shift to help you rewire.

Remember, when we rewire, that is when the shifts we make become sustainable, rather than short-lived. Training the mind and rewiring the brain to be able to access more creativity is an essential step we take that amps up our performance and innovative abilities.
